That phrase can cover a vast amount of feelings and points of view. To some people it means to just let nature take its course, and what you end up with is what is meant to be. To accept it gracefully.
To others it means to do what you can to feel your best, and how you look shouldn't matter. Accept it gracefully.
To some aging gracefully means ensuring that aging happens slower than their peers. I've talked with hundreds of women about what aging gracefully means to them. The results are a mixed bag. However, one thing is constant; it does matter to them and It's hard to accept.
I know for me, aging gracefully falls somewhere in the middle of those descriptions. I am turning fifty and I am doing what I can so I can feel good with myself. When I look healthy, when my skin looks healthy then I feel good. I work out, take supplements so my body can have the tools it needs to be strong and be able to do what I want to do in life. I do treatments for my skin so my appearance reflects how I feel inside.
A friend said it well, "I just want to look like myself." I feel aging gracefully is being able to laugh and find joy everyday, to physically be able to do the things that I want to do, I want to reflect on my experiences and be proud of my life choices that brought me to where I am today.
My appearance shouldn't matter, and maybe one day it won't. However, when I look in the mirror and my reflection looks older than how I feel, it bothers me. And those changes are happening fast! That's when I take a breath and remind myself these changes are happening because I am getting older. I am so thankful for being able to live my life.
These skin changes are happening because of bone structure shifting, fat pad absorption, collagen and elastin degradation, There are procedures that can help slow these processes down and I will continue to do them, just like how I will continue to eat well and workout to slow my body from aging.
Wherever you are on the sliding scale of "aging gracefully," I can help. I will listen to your concerns and clarify all the things that are available from chemical peels, skin care products, biostimulators to injectables and laser treatments.
Ask yourself these questions: Did I laugh today? Did I tell the people in my life that I love them? Did I have gratitude?
