Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) is a regenerative treatment that boosts collagen and elastin production, resulting in rejuvenated skin.
PRF can be used as a standalone treatment or in conjunction with other regenerative treatments, such as microneedling.
PRF can be processed one step further to create a "natural filler" called "EZgel", which is perfect for specific areas such as the under-eye.
PRF will not plump up the skin as much as a filler, but it does cause the skin to regenerate on a cellular level. The results look natural because the treatment uses your own cells to turn back the hands of time.
PRF treatments are more concentrated than Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), with a significantly higher therapeutic response and longer-lasting results.
What is PRF?
Just like PRP, PRF is autologous, meaning it is derived from your own body, specifically your blood, which is rich in platelets, fibrin and white blood cells. PRF injections are created by spinning the blood at a speed which allows the fibrin matrix to stay with the platelets, resulting in a more cohesive, stable injectable.
Unlike PRP, PRF is not processed with anticoagulants or additives, which results in a slower, more effective release of growth factors over time. This gradual release allows for a cascade of healing and rejuvenating effects.
What can PRF do for you?
PRF addresses an array of concerns, such as fine lines, wrinkles, hair loss and dull or uneven skin tone. When it's processed further into EZ gel, it's an excellent treatment for the under-eye area.
Some of the benefits of PRF include:
1. Collagen Stimulation: The super-concentrated growth factors and fibrin in PRF stimulate fibroblasts, which are responsible for producing collagen. Boosted collagen levels result in firmer, plumper skin with improved elasticity.
2. Skin Integrity: PRF speeds up cell turnover, giving the skin a smoother and more radiant appearance.
3. Natural and Safe: Because PRF is derived from your own blood and processed without chemicals, the risk of allergic or adverse reactions is low.
What does the PRF treatment involve?
The PRF treatment begins with a simple blood draw. Your blood is placed in a centrifuge, spinning at a low speed to separate platelets, white blood cells and fibrin matrix. The resulting PRF is carefully extracted and either injected into specific areas or applied topically after microneedling to maximize absorption.
The treatment can be done over your lunch hour with minimal downtime.
You may experience mild swelling or redness that rarely lasts longer than a day or two.
Are you a good candidate for PRF?
Almost everyone is a candidate. PRF is particularly effective if you’re just starting to experience skin laxity or a dull, uneven complexion, but clients of every age will experience improved skin integrity after two or three treatments.
If you are pregnant, have a blood disorder or a serious medical condition, please talk to your doctor before proceeding with PRF treatments.
How many treatments do you need to achieve the best results?
Some of my clients reported their skin plumped up and regained elasticity after one treatment, but most see results after three treatments. Results can last up to a year.
