A skilled injector does not spot treat areas patients find unattractive, such as marionette lines; instead we look at your whole face and determine which products will get the most natural, longest-lasting results for you.
When using dermal fillers for facial rejuvenation, it's important to have a comprehensive understanding of the ageing process and the anatomical interrelationships in the face.
Here are some of the factors I consider before I arrive at a facial rejuvenation solution for each client.
Creating Facial Harmony
The face is a complex structure with interconnected areas. Focusing on just one area can disrupt facial harmony and create an unbalanced, odd look. The key to achieving natural results is to treat the entire face — that's how skilled injectors maintain proportions and a natural appearance.
Understanding the Underlying Causes
Nasolabial folds (the lines running from the nose to the mouth) often deepen due to overall volume loss in the cheeks and midface, rather than just isolated sagging in that area. By treating the underlying cause — mid-face volume loss — I can reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds more effectively and create a longer-lasting, more natural-looking result.
It's important to remember that ageing affects the entire face, not just one area. As we age, we lose bone structure, volume in the cheeks, temples, jawline and other areas of the face. Addressing these changes comprehensively with filler helps to restore a youthful appearance in a balanced and cohesive way.
Choosing the Right Products
A skilled injector will choose the most appropriate product for each area of your face. There is currently a vast array of fillers available and there's no one-size-fits-all approach. The characteristics of each product determine proper placement and product layering.
For example, some fillers offer high lift and work well to redefine the contour of the jawline or chin. Other fillers are better suited for injecting in the superficial dermal layers to improve skin quality and hydration.
At Visage, I have access to all products available which helps me choose the most appropriate for you. The best way to stay on top of the product knowledge is to keep up with continuing education and to learn from the world's best practitioners.
Avoiding Overfilling
If only one area is treated, there is a risk of overfilling it to achieve the desired result. This technique can lead to an unnatural or "overdone" look. Treating the face holistically allows for a more conservative and evenly distributed amount of filler, resulting in a subtle and refreshed appearance.
Improving Longevity
When the entire face is treated, the results tend to last longer. This is because the fillers are working together to support the face rather than just being concentrated in one area. A well-distributed approach provides better structural support and can enhance the longevity of the treatment, with results lasting up to two years in some of my clients.
I wanted to provide some insight into the decision-making process I go through when I help you to put your best face forward. As always, I am happy to answer your questions and work on a long-term plan so you age gracefully on your own terms.
